1600 Eighth Street, which was purchased from Shiloh Baptist Church back in 2009 after having sat vacant for decades, is in the final stretch of a massive renovation, and it looks awesome. I love everything I see: the copper gutters and roof trim, the new bay, the paint scheme, the new doors and windows, and the cleaned and re-pointed brick. I haven’t been able to find any information about the project online, but word on the street is that two or three condominiums will be for sale soon.
Here are a couple photos I took this weekend.
And in case you forgot, here’s what the place used to look like back in March 2007 soon after I began blogging…

please, please, please, if there is a god, he/she will continue to make them sell of properties so they can be properly restored and cared for!
it is looking fantastic! im loving the picked out details in the cornice.
It really does look great. Still curious as to how they will finish off the bay portion. The other ex-Shiloh property seems to have a little activity as well, though the builders are a bit "questionable" ... at least in my biased opinion :D
ha -- haven't observed the builders, but the owners of the other are fantastic and have a great plan for the property. Windows are in and the exterior is about to get an overhaul (brick cleaning/pointing, etc.).
The attention to detail has been so incredible. They are taking their time to do it just right. I can't wait to see it finished. It will really anchor the whole street from RI to P Street. Anyone know the contractor well?
Lots of positive construction energy happening right now between 9th and 8th on Q...please keep it coming east and do something with the intersection of 7th and Q...pick a corner...any corner...
Dear construction gods, please keep the positive energy happening right now on Q Street between 9th and 8th coming eastward to the intersection of 7th and Q...once there, feel free to pick a corner...any corner...they all need your help desperately.
Slowly but surely I'm working on the bright green one across the street as well.
8th & Q is the hot corner!
The folks over at 9th & Q did a great job with that former commercial building as well (now painted blue).
