9th Street Vacant Property Survey

In case you missed it, a few weeks ago Rob Goodspeed compiled a great survey of vacant properties on 9th Street, including a map of the same and information about who owns each property. Check it out here.

Hopefully, with the new Marriott deal, the company will sell or do something with their unneeded 9th street real estate (north of L?) that benefits the community...

Anon @ 10:22 - I was actually thinking about making this post about that in particular but didn't have time to write a thoughtful post on the subject. A lot of land is now owned for Marriot that's no longer in the hotel footprint. Hopefully those vacant properties will be transformed and put to new uses. Here are a few of my thoughts on what should be done:

+ High density, mixed income residential with ground floor retail.

+ Marriott Hospitality School, including a large culinary institute with large windows on the street and residential dorms above and retail mixed in (think Johnson and Whales in Charlotte--very cool area).

Any other ideas?

My fear is that these properties will be used for parking or held vacant for future expansion of the Convention Center or of the hotel. Hopefully time will show that fear is unfounded.

I love your ideas - I think the high density and retail components are key to improving the streetscape and bringing services to the neighborhood...

Shaw rez are we sure the north end of L is off the plan? With this latest announcement of a deal (and I wont buy it until we see shovel hit dirt) the stories are conflicting as we have heard it both ways.

At any rate, the condition of the 7th & 9th street corridors is really depolorable.

si - until the plans are submitted, I guess we won't know for sure what's in store, but everything I've read says the hotel is going to be all south of L now...

Where's the Whitman Condo Blog today? Did something miraculous happen? Did the blogger take it down? It's too early to gloat, but god I hope that awful blog has been removed...
