I stopped off at the Marion Street Garden a few Sundays ago for their big workday volunteer event. I don't want to spoil my May article in MCDC (on stands Saturday, May 7), but I do want to give a brief shoutout to their youth run herb CSA (community supported aggriculture), mention their weekly farm stand, and share some extra photos of the awesome intergenerational community garden.
A new feature at the garden in 2011 is a youth-run herb CSA, the only youth-run CSA in the city. Every week, youth ages 12 to 14 will cultivate, harvest, market and demonstrate uses for the herbs in the garden. There are two available shares for purchase in this year's herb CSA -- contact the garden if you're interested in purchasing a share!
Also, the garden will have a "garden stand" every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., where they'll sell seedlings and surplus produce from the garden for anyone who wants to come by and support the space.
Unfortunately my photos are of the workday in progress -- things looked even better at the end of the day. What a beautiful, green, great space in the center of our neighborhood where wonderful things are happening!
