Investment in Expanded Meeting Space at the Convention Center

The Washington Business Journal reports that the Walter E. Washington Convention Center plans to spend between $8 million and $10 million to retrofit the center to expand its meeting space. Says the WaBizJo:
The renovations will add 40,000 square feet to the existing 150,000 square feet of meeting space it has now. The center also has 703,000 square feet of exhibition space and 52,000 square feet of ballroom space. The authority plans to use some space from the center’s grand lobby to add additional rooms, and to use a vertical “sky wall” system in which dividers drop down from the ceiling to create added rooms when needed for particular events.
I love the grandness of the grand lobby space. I hope that the alterations are sensitive to the architecture and do not change the overall feel of it.
