Corduroy Restaurant Relocating to Shaw! (Updated with Photo)

Many thanks to my friend Amanda of Metrocurean for pointing me to this revealing chat transcript from WaPo restaurant news guru Tom Sietsema. Of note, Tom tells us that highly acclaimed D.C. restaurant Corduroy is moving to Shaw in February 2008, specifically to 1122 9th Street. Below is the entire discussion on the move:

Washington, D.C.: Any word from Tom over at Corduroy where/when they will moving?

http://washington.bizjournals.com/washington/stories/2007/05/28/story1.html

Tom Sietsema: "The rumor is true," Power tells me.

The chef plans to give his landlord notice (this post could be it, actually) July 10 and say good-bye to the hotel space on 11th & K streets in January -- in part to keep his staff for a planned February 2008 opening at 1122 9th St, in the Shaw neighborhood.

His forthcoming venture -- a three-story historic building, with 58 seats on the first floor and private rooms above it -- will be called Corduroy and stick with the same menu, at least to begin.

To say the least, this is VERY exciting news!

i think it's safe to say now that shiloh is going to have developement pressure on their vacant properties increasing VERY quickly. it seems like ninth street has reached it's tippping point and is going to get a whole lot nicer really quickly. seventh street, on the other hand, with the warehouse shutting down and with kelsey gardens, is going be the underachieving little brother to ninth street.

This is SPECTACULAR news!!! Which building is it, exactly?!

Apparently, this is true. I just got confirmation on this (I don't know if the person who confirmed wants public acknowledgment-but they should definitely know). It's one of the townhouses across from the convention center. I'll try and get a picture later today.

WOW. This is incredible. We also have Nima's coming, and isn't there another restaurant supposedly coming right next to Nima's?!?

I have heard that the place next to Nima's is being renovated into a restaurant, but haven't been able to substantiate that rumor or find out any details.

Drawings for The Exchange (Jemal's mixed use development at 9th and N, delivery date Spring 08 but I hear it's running ahead of schedule!), show a cafe with outdoor seating on the first floor.

I personally would love for us to land a Matchbox/2-Amy's/Coppi's-esque pizza place along this stretch of 9th; I may zip an email to some of those people encouraging the same.

FYI Chatman's D'vine Bakery & Cafe is slated to open in early July at 1239 9th Street NW (convention center). The owner, Debra Chatman told me she will be baking fresh bread!!

Great news! One of the best restaurants in DC IMO.

D'Vine Cravings has lots of amazing stuff planned... pastries and breads (I currently am a fan of Debra's Espresso Bread... it's sinful) as well as signature sandwiches and homemade soups. Sounds like it is going to be a great place to grab breakfast or lunch all greeted with a smile and bubbly personality that Debra shares with all she meets. She is providing a key lime cake with cream cheese key lime icing for Long View Gallery's One Year Anniversary party on July 7th... come taste!

The Corduroy move is one that I've had to keep under my hat for about a year and a half, since I was sworn to secrecy, what with the chef not having given notice to his landlord. The architects that did Brasserie Beck at 11th and K are working on the new Corduroy. Corduroy's opening will be one of the watershed events in the lower 9th Street restaurant row's development.
