Renovations in the 1300 Block of Eleventh

A few weeks ago, a reader submitted a tip about ongoing work on a set of five row homes in the 1300 block of Eleventh Street (including the building in which The Annex Market used to be). She reported that the owner intends for the ground floor corner retail space to be a restaurant with outdoor seating, and that several restaurateurs have already expressed interest in the space.

Walking to work this morning, I noticed that construction is moving along and things are looking great. The once drab, monotone buildings appear to be on their way to being an attractive rainbow row.

They're looking fantastic, right?

Do we know if the owner intends on having them restored fully or just slapping some paint on them. The wood trim needs to be prepped prior to painting and the brickwork should be probably be re-pointed and powerwashed prior to paintimg. It'd be nice if those awful metal barracades on the windows and doors would have been taken off rather than just painted too. That along makes it look like the days of the riots. Anything is an improvement though. Just hoping that they get the full attention they deserve.

Agreed that any action on these great buildings are welcome. But, I go by them every morning, and I have serious doubts the work will fall under the category of "high-quality, professional renovation." Keep us updated if you hear anything else!

oh no, i hope they're actually getting a full rehab, not just a spit and polish. it would be a shame if this is all just shoddy work.

A big warning-sign on this early work: They already removed the bay window from the corner building, and replaced it with regular windows.

actually looking back at my old post about Annex Market, it doesn't appear that the corner unit had a bay window....

The windows are being replaced, but I haven't noticed any brickwork. They'd have finished two weeks ago if it was just a paint job. Great news about a possible restaurant.
