For a while, we've known that the cluster of vacant buildings on the north side of L Street and in the 1000 block of Ninth across from the now-under-construction convention center hotel are slated to be transformed into a Courtyard by Marriott and a Residence Inn. I'm particularly excited to see the construction of these hotels move forward, as these vacant buildings are a major hindrance to Ninth Street's vitality and beauty.
Upon perusing the beautiful photos of DCentric documenting the construction of the new Marriott Marquis, I noticed a link to EB5 Capital, which provides some insight into a timeline for these two smaller hotels. According to a November 2010 report by EB5 Capital, the two smaller hotels (known as "Phase II" of the convention center hotel project), "The Courtyard and the Residence Inn locations will bring an additional 500 rooms to the Marriott Convention Center complex." These two smaller hotels will open in Spring 2014. No word on when construction will start.
