Vida at 9th and K Opening Date

In January, I discussed a WBJ report about Vida Fitness's plan to open a gym in the Renaissance Hotel, which is just south of the Convention Center and Carnegie Library at 9th and K Streets. I've heard very little about the plan since then and have seen no signs of progress regarding a Vida opening up on our southern border.

Today, however, I received an email from Vida that included a blurb about this new location. According to their most recent press release, the "VIDA @ The Renaissance Hotel" will open in November. It will be 10,000 square feet with state-of-the-art strength training and cardio equipment. Wellness services will include VIDA's Zen Spa with Endless Pool and European steam and sauna rooms. Luxuriously appointed locker rooms will feature complimentary towel service and optional laundry service. Their high-end spa will have 4 full treatment rooms and a full array of available services.

Special memberships are now available; if you join now, you can workout at VIDA Verizon Center until the Renaissance Club opens.

That is a really bizarre location for Vida. That Renaissance hotel is broke down. I'm surprised they didn't wait for some new space a little further away from the Verizon center location.

Given the lack of a Convention Center hotel, Renaissance is always overflowing with customers. I'd imagine this Vida location looks to capitalize on hotel guests wanting to use their spa services, while still providing a wonderful membership gym for the locals. Even if the new hotel opens in 2012, that's still 4 good years of non-stop bookings at the Renaissance.

Vida is actually opening in the new Metropole apartments (basement level) at 15th and P Streets. I've been recruited to teach a few classes there. Goal to open is late September.

don't bother - Vida has got to have the worst customer service and least qualified trainers in the washington, dc area. Do yourself a favor and take a look around. The metropole location has less of the equipment failure issues than verizon and is a bit frienliers... Verizon should consider an overhaul of the staff.. from front desk to unqualified personal trainer staff..
