Work Continues on L Street

Drew reports that work on the penthouse at 933 L Street (above center with the crane in front of it) was in full swing yesterday. As reported previously, the architect for the project spoke at the February ANC2C meeting and said the structure is being renovated into a 52 unit, market rate apartment building with 9th story penthouses set back from the street. The historic 1920's facade is going to be restored and the penthouses, which aren't visible from the street, are modern and airy (the renderings looked beautiful).

Also as reported previously, this stretch of L Street will eventually feature three Marriott Hotels: a Courtyard by Marriott and a Residence Inn on the same side as 933 L and the new Convention Center Hotel on the other side of the street (although I think the main entrance to the big Convention Center hotel will be on Mass Avenue). Ground floor retail will also be a feature of the new hotels.

Really glad to hear that there are signs of progress there. For awhile, it didn't look like anything new was happening.

Hopefully too we'll see the Convention Center hotels actually materialize sometime in the next decade.

It takes such little effort to be negative... we should all work on being positive.
