Weekend Shoutouts

Shaw's buzzing with activity every weekend. Here are a few of the things you should consider for your weekend agenda:

1. Shaw Monthly Cleanup - Meet tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at 5th Street & Rhode Island Avenue, NW. Bring friends, family, gloves and warm clothing. CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER FORECAST!

2. Check Out Our Newest Eatery - El Sol de America, a new Mexican American diner, is already open but celebrates with a grand opening tomorrow (December 12). Chef/owner Roberto C. Gomez has brought together a team of experienced food industry professionals to bring this new concept to Little Ethiopia, which features Mexican/Latin dishes, traditional diner fare, and "the best margaritas and sangria in town" (so be sure to hit up El Sol's Happy Hour soon, which is Monday through Friday, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM).

3. Check Out Our Second Newest Eatery - As reported here and several other places, a new eatery recently opened on 11th Street known as Chix. Their tag line is "Eat Responsibly" and their shtick is to provide "natural, healthy, delicious, affordable, quick Latin-flavored meals in a casual environment" while also being environmentally friendly. Check out their largely chicken-oriented menu here.

4. Take a Picture of Shaw's Holiday Glory - I'd love to post some pictures here of beautiful holiday decor and scenes in and around Shaw. Take a photo and email it to me at slumhistorique at yahoo dot com!

5. These Regular Options Are Always Great - the Liberation Dance Party at DC9, the shows at 9:30 Club, Black Cat, Arena Stage, and Studio Theater, the cultural offerings of the Warehouse Arts Complex, Project 4 Gallery, the Ninth Street Gallery, and the Long View Gallery, the chance to get your freak on and knock back some drinks at places like Town Danceboutique, The Space, Avenue, Be Bar, Nellie's Sports Bar, and Old Dominion Brewhouse, and great meals at Vegetate, Acadiana, Etete, or Queen of Sheba.
