Extreme Tree Box Makeover, 9th Street Edition

In case you haven't seen them yet, the new iron tree box guards being installed along 9th Street between N and U Streets look great. So far only two blocks have received the ironwork, the 1500 block and the 1900 block; the remaining blocks will soon follow. The plan is for 7th Street to receive a similar treatment in the near future.

In addition to the iron tree box guards, the tree box makeovers include new mulch and plantings, consisting of a liriope border and black eyed susans in the middle. The Shaw Monthly Cleanup crew and the SMS Green Team mulched and planted the boxes along the 1500 and 1900 blocks a few weeks ago, and things are really looking good (I love how unified the blocks look now; these attractive tree boxes really add to the pedestrian's experience on 9th).

Thanks Shaw Main Streets, for securing the funds and implementing this great streetscape enhancement to 9th!
