There are a ton of outdoor activities going on in and around Shaw this weekend in commemoration of the Dog Days of Summer. While I prefer being poolside or chilling indoors with the A.C. cranked when the temps approach 100, I’m sure I’ll make it to several of the following:
1. Dog Days of Summer on 14th, P and U Streets- hosted by the MidCity Business Association, the 7th Annual Dog Days of August Sidewalk Sale and Festival will be on 14th Street, U Street, P Street NW and Surrounding Community this Saturday (from 10 am to 7 pm) and Sunday (from 11 am to 5 pm). This event seeks to showcase the unique, vibrant, exciting businesses, experiences, and living opportunities available in the MidCity by featuring shopping specials, sidewalk cafes, and cultural attractions.
*Saturday only from 12-5pm a MidCity Development Showcase at the Reeves Building at 14th & U being produced by the Cardozo Shaw Neighborhood Association
2. Blessing of the Dogs at National City Christian Church on Sunday - At 10 am this Sunday and to coincide with the dog days of summer, National City Christian Church at Thomas Circle is doing a blessing of the creatures this Sunday, on the front steps. The service is 20 minutes long, and a soprano will perform the hymn, "All Things Bright & Beautiful, All Creatures Great & Small".
If you haven't been to a service like this before, they are usually a fun celebration of the companionship and comfort that our furry four-legged friends bring to our lives.
3. Shaw Community BBQ at the Seventh Street Garden - This Sunday from 3-6 PM will be the 7th Street Garden Barbeque (on 7th street between P & Q). They are also looking for some volunteers and material donations to help support this event (to learn about volunteer needs, contact Liz Falk, Director, Garden Programs, The 7th Street Garden, phone: 202.441.9678; email: 7thstreetgarden at gmail dot com.
4. There's Always This Fun Stuff To Do in Shaw - These regular weekend options are ALWAYS great: the Liberation Dance Party at DC9, the shows at 9:30 Club, Black Cat, Arena Stage, and Studio Theater, the cultural offerings of the Warehouse Arts Complex, Project 4 Gallery, the Ninth Street Gallery, and the Long View Gallery, the chance to get your freak on and knock back some drinks at places like Avenue, Be Bar, Nellie's Sports Bar, and Old Dominion Brewhouse, and great meals at Vegetate, Etete, or Queen of Sheba.

Bleh, for an event with a name like "Dog Days of Summer" we got a rather unfriendly reception last year when we tried to bring our dog along for some shopping.
huh... interesting. I've taken my dog in several stores along 14th and U (Home Rule, Garden District and Good Wood come to mind)--generally asking to make sure it's ok first--and always gotten a warm reception.
I know that Long View Gallery on 9th is a dog-friendly shopping environment.
we offer a cooldog bar for our neighbors and customers with dogs.

Just got in this evening from a independent film at the AMC Loews Dupont Circle 5.
Falling for Grace
starring Gale Harrold (Brian from Queer as folk), Margaret Cho, Christine Baranski and Fay Ann Lee as the main character, director and writer.
It is a good movie and to boot some of characters as even at the showing. Movie time are roughly 1, 4, 7 & 9 -- Go see this movie as it is a good distraction from the heat this weekend
I love the info on Shaw and the community you share. Glad that you kept the "Le Slum" tagline- only way I could find you easy again. Thanks.
