Curb Appeal Shoutout, Volume 1

Thanks to a neighbor for submitting renewshaw.com’s very first curb appeal shoutout! The following pictures show a recent front yard and tree box makeover on the 1600 block of New Jersey Avenue, NW. Sources tell me that the beautiful landscaping projects cost less than $100 in all, thus demonstrating that you don’t have to break the bank to make a big impact on your block. Kudos to these hardworking homeowners for enhancing our neighborhood!

As I’ve said before, I think working in the yard is extremely satisfying; I’m glad to see that others do too! I can't wait to check out this beautiful work in person.

Know a yard, facade, planter, or treebox that is worthy of some neighborhood accolades? Submit photos and property info to me at slumhistorique at yahoo dot com!

that's a very nice treebox. I'm not a huge fan of the big metal boxes that I bang my shins on, but this one is aesthetically pleasing and not a danger to pedestrians.

I like the treebox. Maybe as part of your efforts, you can talk to whoever did it and give us a "how to" for dummy gardeners.

Nice blog! I'm one of your neighbors.

DC Urban Gardeners has some good insight on treebox care and plantings; here are two links:

I'll see if I can garner any insight from our neighbors on NJ Ave on how they worked their magic to produce such a nice result.

anytime you "build up" a tree box you are signing a death warrant for the tree... instead the soil should be scooped out to collect rainwater...

I live in Shaw, and I have a confession;
I loathe yardwork! My main yard is looking a mite peaked (and crunchy), but I am doing my best to heal it. Im about to take on my tree box this weekend, and it was this post (and my co-worker) that have given me the encouragement to do so!
