Long View’s exhibition of Dana’s work officially runs from June 9 – June 30, although most of her paintings are up already. There is an artist reception this Saturday night (June 9) from 6 to 8 pm. If you’ve never seen Dana’s art before, here’s a description from the Gallery’s press release:
The allure of a Dana Ellyn painting is that it tells a story; her paintings have meaning, and sometimes the message may come as a shock. Her work is bold and confrontational, often exposing unpleasant aspects of current issues. Ellyn’s work elicits conversation, tackling the subjects of religion, politics, family and other sensitive issues with sardonic humor and engaging honesty. Her work forces reaction rather than complacency – begging the viewer to think, to understand, to interpret, and then to discuss.I find this new body of work beautiful and engaging (indeed, there will soon be a red dot/sold sticker on one of them for me). I look forward to attending the reception this Saturday night at Long View and to speaking with the artist herself.

Wow, what cool art! I'm no art guru, but I do think it has the hallmark of all great art - a unique perspective and a distinctive look... Love it.
Agreed, Anon! And it's quite affordable!
Only to build interest...
The piece Shaw Rez has used here is part of a 15-painting series by Dana Ellyn that exists within I Call Shenanigans. In this series, Ellyn has represented each of the 15 stanzas of the Star Spangled Banner as a painting. Here, perhaps obviously, we have "Broad Stripes and Bright Stars."
Hope to see everyone this Saturday for some food, drink and inspired art!
check out my photos of the show.."weekend- 9th street."
