Weekend Shoutouts

It looks like another beautiful weekend is on tap. Here is a brief rundown of some of your exciting options in Shaw:

1. Taste of Shaw 2007 - The second Taste of Shaw will be a progressive dining and art event along lower 9th Street, NW, near the Washington Convention Center and will be held this Saturday (May 5, 2007) from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. The event will feature samples of a variety of dishes, beers, cocktails, and cigars from venues along four blocks adjacent to the new Washington Convention Center. Art galleries will present art, food, and drink.

Tickets entitle participants to a sample of food or beverage at each of the participating venues. The tickets are $20 in advance, and $25 on the day of the event. Advance sale tickets are now on sale at the following locations: Azi's Cafe, 1336 9th Street, NW; Long View Gallery, 1302 9th Street, NW; Old Dominion Brewhouse, 1219 9th Street, NW; Modern Liquors, 1200 9th Street, NW; and Breakwell's Coffee + Tea, 900 M Street, NW.

On the day of the event, tickets will only be available at the Welcome Center at Old Dominion Brewhouse, 1219 9th Street, NW. Advance ticket holders will turn in their tickets at the Welcome Center for their A Taste of Shaw Passport, which will be validated at each stop.

2. Cinquo de Mayo Means Tequila – Modern Liquors is having a tequila tasting on Saturday from 4-5pm (and is also a stop on Taste of Shaw).

3. Kentucky Derby Means Mint Juleps – If you can't make it over to Modern Liquors for some tequila or Taste of Shaw, consider popping in Good Libations to pick up some Whiskey to make Mint Juleps. See the official recipe here

5. There's Always This Fun Stuff Going on in Shaw - Check out the Liberation Dance Party at DC9, the shows at 9:30 Club, Black Cat, Arena Stage, and Studio Theater, the cultural offerings of the Warehouse Arts Complex, Project 4 Gallery, the Ninth Street Gallery, and the Long View Gallery, and the chance to get your freak on and knock back some drinks at places like Avenue, Be Bar, and Old Dominion Brewhouse.
