Thanks to JMC for telling me a few days ago about the opening of Euro Market and Café in one of the Convention Center exterior retail spaces. Located at 7th and L Streets, Euro Market and Café offers sandwiches, salads, soups, coffees, ice cream, smoothies, magazines, and much more.
On Sunday, I headed to Euro Market and Café for lunch. Like any new restaurant, there is room for improvement in the areas of efficiency and consistency, but overall I was very impressed with my sandwich and with the menu. I will definitely be back for another sandwich soon and (after I’ve earned it…) for some of their tempting frozen delights.

This is great news! I was thinking how cool it would be for all of the new restaurants to offer outdoor seating -- it would really liven up the streetscape and draw attention to the new businesses, I think... (Old Dominion, Chan's, etc...)
I *think* I read on the Life in Mt. Vernon blog that outdoor seating is coming to Euro Market and Cafe within a week! I agree thath outdoor seating will really add to the streetscape.
On a somewhat related note, I don't think I saw any signage for Euro up yet. Hopefully their sign will look cool and unique, thereby adding to the streetscape also.
In case you decide Euro Market would be a wonderful way to start off your week... know they are closed on Mondays. If I remember correctly they are open Tuesday through Sunday, 6:30am - 8pm.

That's great! Back on the topic of outdoor seating, do you think that the 9th street places would be interested in doing outdoor seating? I remember when Azi's added it, I was blown away with how great it looked, and it does draw attention to the businesses.......
Anon - Possibly; it's worth asking, anyway! The sidewalks by OD and Chan's may be too narrow for any significant outdoor seating area (if my memory serves me, Euro's sidewalk frontage on L Street is pretty wide; I'm guessing that's where their outdoor seating is going), but a table or two may be manageable.
Shaw Rez - great point. I hadn't thought about that...I think I'll ask next time I stop by! :) The recent retail progress really is exciting...

I think that there are a few permit hurdles through which they'd have to jump before being able to have outdoor seating, fyi.
You're definitely right about the permit, I just thought of that myself! :) I assume they're not too tough to get, though...

The permit process for outdoor seating is a nightmare, especially if you want to serve alcohol.
It involves architectural drawings, DCRA and DDOT involvement. Also it can involve ANC input. There is sometimes and inspection process involved as well. I don't know why DC makes it so hard for businesses to get anything done.

Monday-Friday 6:30am-8:00pm
Saturday 10:00am-10:00pm
Sunday 10:00am-4:00pm
The owner said they are working out all the new restaurant kinks and would have a "grand opening" in about a week.
