Shaw Main Streets’ fourth annual meeting will be held tonight (Tuesday, March 20, 2007) at 6:30 PM at Shaw Junior High School, 925 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, in the Percy L. Ellis, Jr., Auditorium. Among the highlights of this year’s event will be a musical welcome by the award-winning Shaw Junior High School Band, presentation of volunteer service awards to Shaw Main Streets’ top volunteers during the past several years, presentation of Shaw Champion Awards to Metropolitan Police Department Lieutenant Michael A. Smith, for his many years of devoted service to the Shaw community’s residents and businesses, and to Shaw Junior High School, which has supported SMS’ efforts by supplying a venue for the kickoff of Keep Shaw Beautiful Day, screenings of documentaries, and other events, and by allowing the Shaw JHS Band to perform at events; announcement of the winners of the Best New Shaw Business of 2006 award, a brief overview of the Shaw Junior High School’s history and how the school gave the neighborhood its name, election of SMS Board of Directors members, a summary of the past year’s successes and plans for the next year, and the popular closing reception, featuring food and beverages provided by Shaw commercial district businesses.
The event is free and open to all, and no reservations are required.

This is completely unrelated to the Shaw Main Streets post, but didn't know how to e-mail Shaw Rez directly...
Current status of Kelsey Gardens? In limbo? Does anyone know anything about a timeline for residents moving out?
No one seems to have mentioned anything about it in many months...but it appears at least 1/2 empty at this point...which might be worse than having it fully occupied...as far as being a magnet for crime that is...
Anon - I'm unaware of any new reports on the status of Kelsey Gardens. I think I remember Off Seventh (linked in my Shaw Blogs) contacted them a while back and likely has more info. I'll see what I can find. Rumor was that KG goes offline in 2008.
As always, feel free to contact me at slumhistorique@yahoo.com.
