Nehi and Inca Are Losers

Good Monday Morning! I don’t have too much to report from my weekend, but will share a few thoughts:

+ “Nehi” and “Inca” graffiti tags appeared on a lot of property throughout D.C. over the weekend (not just in Shaw--I saw the tags near my office in “The Golden Triangle” this morning). It appears "Nehi" and "Inca" are in a tagging war with one another (as every other tag says “Inca wins” or “Nehi wins”). Regardless of their victorious language, both Nehi and Inca (or whoever are behind these annoying tags) are losers. I wonder what embarrassing flaw they’re compensating for through their use of spray paint.

+ The dog owners in Shaw group met over the weekend. Our official name will be “Shaw’s Paws”! YAY! Our main focuses now are 1) Addressing the proposed dog park regulations (comment period ends on April 1; the proposed regulations seem far too restrictive; we’re going to work on a Shaw dog group response to the regs, work with the larger DC Dogs group on a response, and send in individual letters weighing in); and 2) Working on incorporation and non-profit status. As there is a lot of opposition to dogs/dog owners, we need to be extra attentive to picking up after our own dogs and, when possible, doing so for less responsible dog owners.

+ The Home and Garden Show at the Convention Center provided some inspiration for the backyard renovation planned at Remaking Le Slum headquarters. I wasn’t overly impressed at the show or the turnout, but this was my first convention (ever), so I had a lot of pre-conceived notions of what to expect. I was impressed at many of the garden displays, and cannot fathom the work that went into them (e.g., huge rocks, landscaped hills, trees, flowering plants, etc.).

+ Matchbox, one of my favorite purveyors of Pizza just south of Shaw in Chinatown, is now open on Sundays. We had a great lunch (consisting of mini burgers, onion rings, and pizzas) post-Home and Garden Show. I must say, however, I missed my weekly Vegetate Bloody Mary.

Yeah, its bad enough to have graffiti-ists in the neighborhood, but the fact that they're also no-good talentless hacks makes it even worse.

Not that I would ever condone it but what the heck happened to the 'artist' in 'graffiti artist'!? All this unimaginative tagging is just stupid. What's the thought process? "I'll be extra creative and spell 'magic' with a 'k'!" Please.... At least take some creative pointers from Ramone in the 1984 classic Beat Street. And note too that he ends up dead in the movie.

To all you ass-hat taggers... please spare us your lack of imagination, lack of talent and lack of respect for what is not yours to damage in the first place.

I'd like to include ROY, Rob and Magic Tragic on the loser list as well...

Hey, apparently Nehi is a girl, at least the people on this thread think so.

I find it funny that you are one to call someone a loser yet they are doing something that i find amazing, im sure you are just some person that is stuck in a cubicle for more than half your days and dont experience life. Also the art is there you are just too much af a crab ass to see it. Many Kudos to all the DC writers making this grey city colorful.

Spray painting the words "Nehi" or "Inca" everywhere--with absolutely no embellishment whatsoever in how they write the words--is neither art nor amazing. Furthermore, the folks behind Nehi, Inca and other tags spray paint using just the color black—how that makes DC more colorful, I don’t know.

I definitely admit that some writers have a lot of talent and that graffiti can be art; bombing a neighborhood with the same tags over and over, however, is just annoying and uncreative. Not to mention the fact that it causes a huge waste of community resources that are already scarce to do the inevitable—paint over the tags.

nehi and inca are true artists - you just don't haven't seen anything other than their tags cause you don't know where to look.

if your bitching about the tags you don't understand the meaning of getting up.
