Spotted: Progress at Toque Cafe

Mari, who's blog is currently broken, sent me her observations from this morning of the soon-to-be Toque Cafe at Sixth and R Streets. She reports having spotted "shiny windows, cool lighting, tables and chairs" and an inspection underway.

This is sure to be an exciting addition to the area! I can't wait to check it out.

The photo is one of Mari's on Flickr, taken today.

Yeah, it's gonna be great! I've peaked in the kitchen door, and it's all renovated and new and modern back there. I've also heard rumors that there may be a patio at some point on the side.

Hopefully the food is as nice as the restaurant looks to be shaping up. And that it will start to fill the still significant void in decent food options between 9th and 1st in Shaw.

Now if someone would just rent that place on 6th at Q, and turn it into a rockin' bagel shop... anyone?

I talked to the owner on Sunday, and he said they had the building inspection this week and the health inspection the following week and were hoping to open in two weeks. Seemed like a really nice guy.

i peeked through the window on tuesday before they put the paper back up, and spotted a tandoori oven. Pumped for this spot to open! And from a brief chat, I can also attest to the owner being a very nice, friendly guy.

I can't wait for this! Hoping for future neighborhood restaurants in the abandoned corners on the south side of 6th and Florida as well...
