cafe deluxe really would be nice in the corner spot! a tryst or diner or open city outpost would likewise be amazing.
I also think that an upholstery store -- like calico corners -- in one of the other spots would be a cool, destination-retail addition to the area. i know of no such store in the area (dupont, logan, or downtown).
I would love to open a pie shop here, of course there would be other things than pies, many other delicious baked goods. One day I will open one in Shaw
Those rents won't be cheap. You'll end up getting chains. Trust me. Potbelly, PNC Bank, Subway, Maggie Moo, etc. I just can't see an indie being able to afford a Douglas Development property. I wonder with the housing market slump are people noticing a slump in being able to rent retail property as well?
Yeah, I've been waiting for the Cafe Deluxe to open in our 'hood for 5 years now. I thought one of those vacant restaurants (Viridian, Dakota Cowirl- alas all are rented!) would be ideal. They seem to be more suburban oriented. I spoke to the owner about the Logan area 5-6 years ago. He should've listened to me!!
I'd go for a Potbelly Sandwich shop there - we went looking for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon, and the Market had very little to offer, Breakwells was closed, and no way was I going to Subway. I'd like to see a dependable deli/sandwich shop go in there that is open on Saturdays and Sundays. If it's a chain, so be it ...
Attack of the "Chains". Just heard that Fedex-Kinkos is on board. Also heard that they are asking a ridiculous amount for the cafe/restaurant space inside. Trust me no indie owned restaurant could afford it. Oh well. Look out for Applebees.

I tell you what I would like in that corner space... Café Deluxe. With modestly priced comfort food, good wine and a nice brunch, it would be awesome if they were there. Or something along those lines.

PS -- sorry for being an MIA blogger currently. I hope to resume regular posting again; life is keeping me burning the candle at both ends...
Anything but another bank.

How about a coffee house that has more traditional indy coffee house hourse (as in please stay open past 7pm for heaven sakes).
I love you Azi's and Cozy cafe, but you guys need longer hours!!!
We need a place where people can go to drink beer and see indie bands.
A nice new PNC Bank would be nice, huh???
Kidding!!
I think the place looks great and with the right type of place could be a great catalyst for 9th street...
NO BANKS!!
