11th Street Wine Bar Opening Nears

A new wine bar named Vinoteca will open soon at 1940 11th Street, NW, the space that was formerly La Casona. The wine bar's website forecasts greeting its first customers this Monday, November 5th. Owners Paul Carlson and GM Diego Cerezo were childhood friends who grew up in Guatemala, reunited by chance in the United States, and roomed together in New York before deciding to Washington to open this new business. According to Express, Vinoteca will have "wines by the glass, plus cheese and charcuterie options."

Vinoteca (pronounced vee-noh-techa) seeks to be "A neighborhood and destination eatery committed [to] being active in the community and fostering a diverse workforce reflective of our neighborhood. We pledge on providing the finest personal service and specialty products for our customers; while generating an educational, casual and entertaining experience, in a relaxed and appealing ambiance."

Went for the soft opening last night. Loved the sliders, the cheese and meat plate, and our wine, and had a fun time in a nice atmpsphere. They didn't have about half the things we ordered, but I bet that will all be ironed out by the actual opening. Paul, the owner, was extremely generous in providing a complementary bottle of wine when we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. It's definitely worth your while.
