Shaw's REEL Deal: The Pursuit of Happyness

Shaw's REEL Deal, an evening of free music and movies for everyone, is finally upon us. This Saturday evening beginning at dusk, Shaw Together, Inc., a newly formed neighborhood nonprofit will present The Pursuit of Happyness at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 7th Street NW. This night of community fun and bonding should not be missed.

Shaw Together could still use volunteers and donations to pull the night off. If you can give time or money, contact Laura either by emailing her (lgramling at comcast dot net) or by calling her at 202.257.5528. To see who's given to date, click on "thanks to our supporters" at Shaw Together's website.

Funding for this event is still needed. If you are able to give $50 or $100 to make this event happen, Shaw Together's organizers would greatly appreciate your donation.

The entire budget for the event is about $3500, a significant chunk of which goes toward the company that sets up and runs the film equipment. The remaining funds go towards ancillary costs of the night that were not covered through in-kind donations. I gave $100; if six renewshaw.com readers give $50 or more*, I will chip in another $100.

This great community-building event is the first of many to be hosted by Shaw Together, Inc. Donation now to this inaugural event will continue to be recognized by Shaw Together.

*This applies to new donations as of 9/4/07. Let me know of your donation via email at slumhistorique at yahoo dot com.

I had an off topic question... does anyone know about the trail of blood from leading down the O street sidewalk in front of Azi's up the stairs of a row house on 9th... I'm no blood trail expert, but that didn't look like a simple bloody nose. I'm sure it's still there. Creepy.
