Have Dinner with the Queen!

Thanks to anon for suggesting I post a reminder about tonight's "Eat In" at Queen of Sheba. As reported here (and on several other blogs and list serves), neighbors are descending on Queen of Sheba tonight for good food, good drinks, and good times in a show of support for this great dining option in Shaw that's been subjected to a drawn out fight for a liquor license. Below is the text of the post on the Life in Mt. Vernon Square blog:

The Queen of Sheba restaurant has for months now been trying to get a liquor license so that their patrons can simply enjoy a drink with their meal. Even with the liquor license still pending, the Queen of Sheba has pioneered the revitalization of 9th Street amidst an over-abundance of vacant properties, and enhanced the appearance of the areas adjacent to them. In addition to their delicious Ethiopian cuisine, they have Italian and American food, and great made-to-order fruit smoothies.

Some people, many of whom do not even live in the neighborhood, seem determined to deprive our neighborhood of such amenities by keeping the Queen of Sheba from getting a liquor license. They have been dragging out the ABC Board process for months on end. All the while, the Queen of Sheba is having to continue to pay attorney fees, and are losing revenue through not having a liquor license. Sit down restaurants depend on drink sales to survive. A restaurant without a liquor license does not have much of a business.

Let's get together and show support for the Queen of Sheba, and protest the intolerable delays to the Queen of Sheba's liquor license by having an "eat-in" at the Queen of Sheba on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:30PM. All you have to do is to show up at the appointed time and have a meal with your neighbors. And, you will even be able to have a beer or glass of wine with your meal. From September 8 - September 12, the Queen of Sheba has secured a series of special one day ABC event licences to celebrate the Ethiopian Millenium and New Year.

You can also still send letters of support or even better, show up for the next hearing. The next hearing, which should really be the final hearing, is on Thursday September 20 at 10:00AM

Show up tonight at 7:30 PM to enjoy a great meal with neighbors!

I wonder if that vacant lot next door is actually zoned for commercial sales ... you know, the spot where all the rusting cars are seeping into the ground.

Can the links to the convention center articles be reposted? They seem to be cut off.....

We got there around 8 PM last night, and there seemed to be a nice crowd. Meal was great, and I even ordered a couple of beers (such a novel concept!). Service slooooow, but we chatted with several people there and were intrigued by the dancing/gyrations being performed by the people in the music videos being played, so we didn't mind so much.

I actually thought the '91 Mercedes looked to be a steal. :)

Hey, Shaw Rez. You sound like the Goracle, who talks about global warming, tells us to bike or walk to work, and flies around the world in private jets to give his powerpoint presentation. Get off your elitist butt and hop over to Sheba and eat the soured rubber bread and mushy veg with the rest of us. The fried fish is quite good and this week you can at least swill it down with a Heineken.
