The Space Is Cool

I've been to The Space a few times now, and I must say that it is a really, really cool and utterly unique offering in our neighborhood (and in D.C. generally). I particularly love hanging out on their roof deck in the late afternoon or on an evening like last night. The first floor lounge, flanked with plush, intimate seating areas, exudes the vibe of the entire place: relaxing, chic, chill, and fun.

In addition to their full bar (with signature cocktails under construction as we speak), The Space offers a small menu--which will change as the Chef chooses her seasonal ingredients--that features local and organic produce, cheeses and meats. Current offerings include a summer antipasto, a cheese plate, a shrimp cocktail, a watermelon carpaccio with goat cheese and arugula, a roasted beet salad with lentils, oranges and feta, and a peach tart.

The weekly line-up at The Space is still being finalized, but will likely feature movie nights (with popcorn) on Tuesdays, blues bands on Wednesday nights, DJs Thursday and Friday nights, and Jazz on Saturdays. Tonight is the first weekly Blues Night, showcasing live blues and jazz from CDH Brass Works featuring Chalman Holmes. Doors open at 6pm; I hear this inaugural event should not be missed. The Space also has a nightly Veuve Cliquot Champagne Happy Hour from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., providing Shaw with yet another great post-work destination.

The Space is also having a Labor Day barbecue this Sunday, with their DJ Playing Reggae on the Deck. Check out their Events Page for more details.
